Magneton could originally only evolve in Mt. Coronet. In gen 5 they said it could also evolve in Chargestone Cave. They'll inevitably add one for Kalos. If they'll go through all this just for magneton, I'd imagine they'd move mega evos into gen 7.

And these forms you'll have to jump through hoops to obtain and activate and eat up a pokemons item slot. It's a marketing gimmick and a mechanical gimmick.

Why should the Mega forms have Pokedex entries? They're temporary battle forms. Arceus doesn't have a seperate entry for each plate. Neither does each Rotom or Castform or Deoxys or Genesect or Wormadam or Darmanitan or whatever the fuck. Again, they have a legitimate use within the game.

I believe it's a bad thing because it takes cool evolution ideas and makes them nothing more than diaphanous forms, It forces a pokemon to abandon an item slot and it's giving gamefreak an excuse to go nuts with power creep. adaptability lucario? why the fuck not.

And it's a marketing gimmick aimed at the whole shonen crowd and opens the door to further such power level creep.

And I didn't bring genwunner to accuse you. I simply used it as an argument against "ho ho gimmick must be bad".

Read what you posted - yes some power creep is bound to happen (when has it ever not happened? see - Civilization V), but at the very least they tried to balance it by making it take up an item slot. Mega Blaziken isn't so hot now without its Life Orb now is it?

Sorry about snapping about the genwunner thing. I've seen to many people lately try to quantify that they are somehow a superior fan because they don't have a complaint with the mega and it's riding my nerves. Too many people using the no true scottsman defense.

Honestly though, I'm fine with mega, I like the designes and everything. I just wish they were permanent transformations than just formes disguised as evolutions. I can see it coming, more pokemon that need an actual real evolution are going to get shafted by this mega evolution gimmick and have to give up their item slot for any kind of attention.

And giving up your item slots isn't making the game more complex or involved. it's doing the opposite, dumbing it down and removing strategies.

Huge Power Mawile, Speed boost Blaziken, Adaptability Lucario.

You slip into these forms and the game becomes easy mode. They aren't just alternates they are superior to their originator.

As for needing an item eviolite didn't need to make a jump to gen VI. it could have stayed in gen V. and the point is, if Mawile had an evolution it would have had an item slot and an item slot means options. Now instead the only option for Mawile is this mega stone.

Huge Power Mawile will likely be one of the vastly superior ones, but we already have a Speed Boost Blaziken. What if Mega Blaziken doesn't get enough of an Attack boost that's better than Life Orb? It's removing the complexity of choice for the item slot for one item that's completely superior.

Mega forms get a boost to their stats and new abilities that make the mega stone item best in slot guaranteed. Instead of before having to chose an item like choice items or leftovers or life orbs you just immediately use the mega stone.

It's a simplification through adding best in slot items.

Why would anyone use regular blaziken? New blaziken is out and out superior.

Speed Boost Mega Blaziken forgoes its Life Orb though. Huge Power Mawile while destructive, will need to be wary of fast attackers. Adaptability Lucario is the only threatening one. At the very least, you know for a fact that they forgo usual items so you can easily predict their moveset.

We don't know if megastones are affected or not or when in the battle its triggered. there's ways of dealing with troublesome items already though so I don't know why these would be any different. It's the best way to keep these balanced if they are to be used competitively.

Also I'm just waiting for the new moves that will deal with megas.
