I am confused about the way certain items work. Lets say I have an Espeon that knows Light Screen and Psychic. If I give her a twisted spoon which supposedly boosts psychic type moves, does it both increase the damage dealt by Psychic and the effect of Light Screen?

No. Only damage.

If you want to boost screens, use 'Light Clay'. I can't remember if that's the name of it but it's something like that.

No. It only increases the damage of Psychic type ATTACKS by 20%. Basically, if your Espeon held said item and used Psychic, its base power would increase from 90 to 108.

Sorry that's actually 162. There are also copies of that item that do the same boost for all attack types.

Thats the only psychic attack she has, her other attack is swift and I also have work up. Do you think it is worth giving her the spoon? I wouldn't know what other items to use.

Is it just for single player use? If you plan on using her competitively, you may want to rethink your entire set. If it's single player, definitely use it. All of the type boosting items are pretty reliable in single player.

I'm just trying to beat the elite four, this is on an emulator and I'm trying to get back into the loop since I intend of buying a 3DS for X&Y. Last game I played was crystal and I remember just going for legendaries and nuke moves with no real idea how the gamed worked other than weaknesses.

I have this Espeon and an Umbreon and the Espeon I'm going to use to beat the ghost type user and the Fighting type user. Then for their psychic and dark user user I have my Umbreon and also a Chandure. I thought this was sufficient and then I'd just get my starter + 2 pokemon that can nuke dragons,

Psychic is weak to ghost. You'll want to use your Chandelure or Umbreon for that.

Espeon can be a nice lead with magic bounce, just a tip for OU play. If you want to have fun don't use stall teams.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. You'll want to use your Umbreon or Chandelure to beat the Ghost user. Ghost is only weak to Dark and Ghost itself.

Stuck with a crappy moveset from the second generation, ey? Espeon has always been somewhat of a one attack kind of Pokemon (Psychic). If you have the Shadow Ball TM teach it that so it can at least deal with Ghost types better. Also Twisted Spoon only boosts attack moves and not support moves like Light Screen.
