ive spent longer than 50 tries to get a female starter for myself in playthroughs, its no surprise to me that 50 of those were male

plus considering its 87.5 male and you only did 50, it still leaves a lot of room (i realise that isnt how probability works, but even so)

This thread is ridiculous. No. The RIVAL's starters in Gold and Silver are always 100% male. No matter how many times you try it.

Trainer-used Pokemon are generally the same gender as the trainer. This doesn't apply to Pokemon bound to one gender, genderless Pokemon, or some random exceptions.

I always wondered that. I know the starters' gender ration is 1:8 female-to-male but I never once got a rival with a female nor did I get one with a shiny starter (that would be pretty cool).

starters have 1 in 7 chance of being female i beleive. im not sure about the rivals however, but i would assume its the same.

Why are female starters so rare? I don't think I've ever even had a female starter. After the 10th restart or so I always give up. All gender ratios should be 50/50 unless it's for Pokemon that are exclusively one gender.

Look through the route/gym data on Bulbapedia, I had a quick scan through a few routes and it seems every trainer only has pokemon which match their gender.

In gen 2, because of compatibility reasons, all new features like shiny/gender were based on DVs. DVs can go from 0-15. To get a female starter your ATTACK DV has to be 0-1, resulting in 1/8th starters being female and females being shit in this game.

Males always have the higher half of the attack DV as being their flag, so while a pokemon can be 50/50 like geodudes males will have better attack than any female.

Rival always has male because they didn't want your rival to have a joke of a pokemon.

Someone stated earlier in the thread that they'd tried 50 times and still had no luck. I remember times when I'd go through entire boxes of males before I got a single female when breeding those for one that had a 13.5% chance.
