It's more like a Super Mode really. Some Pokémon are outclassed or outstat'd and this is GameFreak's way of evening out the playing field should they roll out a legendary with 1100 BST or something.

Linear, irrevesible evolution lines got old at least 2 gens ago; it was time for a change. Just be glad we got what we did, and not having them start crossing evolution lines to have Pichu evolve into Emolga and shit like that.

Even if they did pay attention to Smogon they wouldn't care. They just gave some small-time Pokemon a chance to be better. Besides, it's not going to make them much better unless it's a permanent form. Especially Blaziken, if he can't use Speed Boost then he probably won't even be in Ubers.

Insomnia is objectively less useful than Pressure or Unnerve, and I doubt they'll actually give Mewtwo a meaningful BST increase. They'll probably just shift numbers to make it Deoxys-S 2.0
Blaziken is only Uber because of Speed Boost.
Mewtwo, Lucario and Blaziken are all getting MegaEvolutions because they're all icons of their generations and well known.
The rest of the ones getting MegaEvolutions so far are Pokemon that are semi-popular but not exceptionally useful.

I'm entirely fine with power creep if the older Pokemon are getting boosted too.

I did that: show Mega Pokemon to someone to gauge their reaction.

I showed Megas to my sister, who loved Blaziken and Ampharos when she was growing up. She's playing Leaf Green right now, but isn't exactly a hardcore fan. For her, Pokemon is just a fun game that she can kill some time with every couple of months.

Her reaction pretty much boiled down to "Meh". Although I did get a "about damn time" with Mega Kangaskhan, so that was something.
