I have a feeling this is what some of us speculated, the battle theme of the trainers inside the gym rather than the gym leader himself.
Remember, X/Y has quite the track list, so this type of variety shouldn't be too surprising.

Remember when Masuda was talking he said "gym trainer"...not "gym leader." So it may not be the gym leader theme but rather the trainers inside the gym.

I think that it would probably be fine if the melody was sped up a bit. The intro is great, and the beat is fine, but that guitar is just a bit too slow for my taste.

That's it! They should keep it constant with that unique Gym Theme (each differs from one another), add Gym Trainer Battle Theme and Gym Leader Battle Theme. That'll make them more memorable than random trainers we bump in our journey.

Of course, there's no denying the E4 should also get their own theme this time around too. No rehashes please GF.

sounds like a battle theme you could hear the whole generation without being annoyed, it should be used for the repetitive trainer battles.
But not gym battles, which must be fast paced
