Gen 5 was definitely the least innovative. It had a lot of little things added, like reusable TMs, new types of battles, but all in all it was mostly the same as Gen 4. This doesn't make Gen 5 bad. Right now I'm playing through Black verson and I'm having a good time.

Gen 6 however is appearing to be the most innovative yet, even more so than 3 or 2.

I like the adventure itself too hence why I'm not as pleased with Gens 4 and 5 as most other people here do.

As for the best plot I still prefer Colosseum letting you play as a renegade, steal Pokemon, and build a pretty unsettling region in Orre.

Gen 5 did a lot of good stuff to refine Gen 4, but since it came and went so fast, and because it didn't feel as much of a leap in tech as from 3 to 4, Sticking it on the DS was also a bad decision, since it made the jump from Gen 4 less radical. I think it'll be largely forgotten as time goes on. B2/W2 sealed their fate; had they done another region, or revisited an old one, it'd have been more fondly remembered.
