on third hand that would mean i'd have to wait at least one year, though likely two

I lived next door to twins when I was a kid.
I always referred to them as Rick and Keegan, not because one was better than the other but because that sounded better than saying Keegan and Rick.
The same thing applies to the Pokémon games. They could just as easily be said the other way around, but it wouldn't sound as good.
