I mean, I understand 4chan changes the playing field. In polite conversation you may think to yourself "Man, I can't understand why anyone would like purple, I just hate that color" but never say it aloud. Suddenly, you're anonymous and free to exaggerate and shout and be crass as much as you like. It feels good to say "Fuck purple! I can't believe you tasteless shits like that shitty ass emofag homo color". You might not even hold anything against the gays! But you say it anyway, the wind of freedom behind your back.
I understand this. It's fun. But after years of the same thing, you notice it's starting to soil your thoughts. It becomes normal and litters the places you converse in. I'd rather break that habit. Our generation can so easily access people with the exact same tastes as ours (especially in nerd circles) that we judge each other by what anime we like or what games we prefer or even if we like those things at all. It's nice to have people to talk about those things with, but we're so spoiled that we've narrowed our preferences impossibly by any real world standards. My aunt is entirely un-nerdy and her best friend is a classic example of a "grew up on DnD and Magic" lady that goes to the Renaissance Rair every year. They get along just fine, even if they disagree on a lot of things. It's okay! Obviously we don't have to be friends, we're anonymous anyway... but things could improve a bit if we decided to hold back once in a while and let that guy who loves that pokemon you hate go. Maybe he's not an edgy hipster. Maybe he just likes it.
The only time other people's opinions on pokemon shit bother me is if they're making assumptions about the creative people instead of just saying what they don't like about it.
