What does pokemon offer to people who are not a fan of competitive multiplayer battles?

I've never missed a gen, and the story is really nothing to write home about, and it's not like the turn based battle system is very engaging.

No disrespect, I'm just trying to figure out why I continue to buy these games, being a person that doesn't care for the competitive aspect.
