>>13392947Best rival ash has had besides gary. i wish he had stayed ash's rival, hes obviously far superior to trip. nobody gave a shit about trip. boring concept, boring personality, the works. paul was a lot more interesting, especially because he was a not so subtle jab at players who are overly competitive with pokemon and was an interesting foil to ash who is more happy go lucky with his pokemon. they both learned from each other, instead of paul just learning HURR LUV UR POGEYMANZ, ash also learned that strategy is important in a battle (of course, he forgot it all in unova because fuck character development, but still)
in my opinion, he could have easily stayed the rival and i think fans would have been content with ash losing to paul in the sinnoh league instead of tobias. paul should have gone on to lose to tobias.
