Because it's very likely that a Pokémon with a MEGAVOLUTION won't get a regular evolution anymore.

Which makes many absolutely useless on a long term.

Here's a comphreensive list of things you cannot do with a MegaEvolution that you can with a regular cross-gen evo.

>Have an Hold Item
>Boost the previous stage with Eviolite access
>Enter contests
>Walk with it (who know, it might happen)
>Pokémon-Amie
>Have more than one per team
>Have it recorded on the Hall of Fame
>Have it ready anythime to show off your internet friends

Not to mention most of the megas are lazy. They are the same pokémon with extra colors and some remodelled body parts. Say what you want about the Gen 4 cross-evos, most of them were more original than these Megas

Eviolite access is the weakest argument, because i cannot imagine many people in-game using it. Everything else is valid.

Here is the thing, Mega evolutions would be a great thing for balancing out Pokemon that are both 3rd stage and have fallen behind the curve due to power creep. I honestly do not see the point of balancing the game by giving Pokemon like Mawile a mega form. Why not just give it a full evolution?

likely because people want the desired pokemon to be at their very best form for gameplay and aesthetic choice.

Take absol, for example. It doesn't yet have an evolution, so obviously people would want to play as its evolve form more often than the amount of time we'll get to play as its megaform, which likely won't be very often if only one pokemon in your party can use its megaform.

I guess what I'm trying to say is you'll get more gameplay out of a regular evolve form rather than a megaform. Of course, we don't yet know all of the specifics about megaforms yet

Because depending on the mechanics of Megaevolution, you may not be able to have your mega-poke from the beginning of the battle, like you would with a regular evolution. Also, you then lose the hold item that you'd be able to give that evolution.

They represent different things.

A mega evolutions is like a super power up, if you look at the double helix symbol that we saw above the Japanese X/Y logos it implies that it is unnatural - like forcing the Power out of the Pokemon using DNA technology. It's artificial.

Evolution represents a natural process - adaption to a change in circumstances or environment. If we see a Technology vs Nature theme in X/Y it'd be nice to see just as many normal evolutions as mega ones.

Wut?

When the Pokemon mega-evolve a double helix appears above their head, it's the same as the one on the logo.

Given the fact the items seem to be different from typical evolution items, it seems pretty obvious that the power being used to 'mega evolve' them is some kind of DNA harnessing material probably similar to that seen in X/Y.

I've used it in-game plenty before, and it's not like in-game is the only thing that matters. Eviolite can be used for NFE Pokemon in lower tiers for more variety as well.
