But I'll humor it.
I'd rather play a visual novel than a game with no story, because without that story to engage your mind, there is no point nor motivation to continue. Games are a mental stimulus. Story satisfies that stimulus in ways that gameplay does not.
Games are about immersing yourself in a different world. Story satisfies that immersion in ways that gameplay does not.
Games are about evoking your imagination. Story stretches your thoughts with different perspectives, traditions and, usually, knowledge.
