I could understand appreciating or being drawn to a relationship presented in media (James and Tracy Bond), or a relationship that could have been but never was (Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth), but being fixated on it ("here's my 1100th drawing of Mr. and Mrs. Bond!!!! They would have been so wonderful together.... #allthetimeintheworld) it seems like the fixation is encroaching on the realm of healthy emotions, or simply filling a void.
Take it a step further and obsess over characters who never got together and never actually would ("Loki and Pepper Potts is my OTP") and now you're either dealing with "lol so random/ironic," trolls, or truly sad people.
On the internet, literally everything is shipped by someone, I wouldn't use that as a litmus test for a franchise's overall health. Maybe the fanbase's, though.
