Introduce Cheren early, don't make Bianca into Barry 2.0, introduce Team Plasma. Make sure Iris actually develops as a trainer so when she pops up in Kalos she'll be champion or at least a gym leader. Hell, make her a gym leader or secretly a gym leader to be.
