Congratz OP! Shiny Nidoking is radical!

My first one was a Phanpy in Gold that fled on me. I went back to replay it after learning about shinies (thought red Gyarados was just special) and the game teased me. I got a Golbat not too much long in Diamond though. I've been pretty fortunate since then.

I stopped playing pokemon before gold and silver, then started again in 2010 with firered/leafgreen and soulsilver. Just last year, while playing firered, I encountered a shiny raticate about two steps from the back exit of the cinnabar mansion. I have since restarted that game, so he is gone, but in that time I have encountered:

-a shiny geodude in soul silver in union cave (named him nugget)
-a shiny caterpie in viridian forest in firered (midas)
-just a few days ago, a shiny ekans on the same run of firered just past teh diglett cave outside vermilion (swagrattlr)

considering the heavy altered movepool I doubt it succeed in a satisfying way.
They may have finally stopped using bit masks on small variables to generate pokes, too, which would lead to weird conversion side effects.

My first shiny since Pokemon Crystal.

Since the color was so subtle and being in the Safari Zone looking for better things I actually threw mud at the bugger first turn and only stopped to catch him after doing a doubletake.

Also, for a complete random encounter the nature and IV's aren't too shabby.

All in all t'was a pretty good day.

My first shiny was a shiny machop, I was trying to radar one and suddenly shiny machop without the glowing grass spot. It pokechecks as a random shiny, not a radar shiny too.

Since then shiny Wobbuffet, shiny piplup, shiny snivy, both from eggs, snivy was MM, though, and 2 shiny Audinos, and the guaranteed shinies, of course.

I love how the Unova Pokedex actually recognises that shiny forms exist. I was surprised when I checked the dex entry for Whimsicott and it had the sprite of my shiny one there, because I hadn't caught or seen a normal version before.

I was thinking that too. I get that he probably didn't have a Masterball at that point but Nidorans are easy to catch, a regular Pokeball would have been fine.

I don't use anything but regular Pokeballs, no matter what I'm trying to catch.

Until the last week, I hadn't seen a single shiny since a random Krabby from Leaf Green. Bred a beautiful autumnal-colored Adamant Shroomish with its hidden ability, then ran into Lunatone with a blue eye the next day when I was training it.

Caught it in a Luxury Ball, called it Kaguya.
