these rules are good

other rule

you can't level up your pokemon higher than the levels of the gym leader in town. so if the gym leaders best pokemon is level 21, none of your pokemon can be above level 21. If a pokemon is over this level, you must box them while you fight the gym leader.

Whatever your starter's gender is, you can only catch pokemon of the opposite gender.

If your Oshawott is male, that means you can only catch female pokemon. If the first pokemon you encounter is male, then you're not allowed to catch it and it counts as your capture attempt for the route.
