I didn't think the Pokemon formula worked well in the game they made. I've played a shit ton of handheld Pokemon so I'm used to cutting out animations and getting through things quickly, but the game was relatively slow-loading (understandably) so it took away from my enjoyment.
I didn't care for the 2-2 battle system staple. I also didn't like the inability to choose my starter (in this case starters).
I didn't enjoy being limited to a select few Pokemon to catch. And I didn't enjoy that of those select few you had to grind their dark bar (or whatever the fuck) down in order for them to grow.
It took the aspects of Pokemon I loved (exploring, battling, team-building) and gave me a stripped-down, suffocating version of those things. Being a console version of a handheld, Colosseum let me down. Sure, it's a fun game in its own right. Just didn't cut it for me.
