I hope there's an option to turn that looking back feature off now, seems like a huge pain. Hell, why the pokemon can't look back at you while the menu is up is beyond me.

Hopefully it's just a demo thing to make the animation more apparent.

That idle animation is still a delay between the battle initiating and being able to choose attacks. It's not necessary at all and the animation could simply play while the attack options are up instead.

Making the player wait is always bad, it doesn't matter if it's 1 second or 20. You wouldn't justify a 2 second delay between lines of text an NPC gives you.

That's a one off thing. A 3 second arbitrary animation every encounter is not.

Let's say you have 3000 encounters throughout your Pokemon adventure. 3 seconds wasted per encounter = 9000 seconds = 150 minutes spent watching the same fucking shit over and over again. That's two and a half hours of your life you're never getting back. Maybe your time is worthless, but I don't have the patience for that shit.

Seriously? Unplayable? And the battle time is already sped up if anyone even actually bothered to notice rather that just finding every little thing to complain about. Attacks do damage and take off health at the same time. They are also generally very fast for a 3D game. Fainting animations take no time at all, while still actually putting in the effort to look like fainting. A lot of you guys seem to treat the game like some kind stiff simulation that should only show exactly what is needed and nothing else. It's a game meant to be experienced, not just some number generator. They even put in things for people like you whose time is so precious like the ability to skip attack animations.

Has anyone discussed that it sounds like they updated Exeggutor's cry? It might just be the audio quality in the clip, but to me it's like they made it sound more similar to leaves rustling or something. Kinda neat. The old cries are really weird sounding compared to the new ones.

The time it takes from losing control in the overworld to being able to press a move seems to be pretty much the same to me.

You can't really say "oh this is wasting time" when riding looks fucking fast, and the text appears faster than any other game, not to mention you auto-run everywhere.

I could understand if we have Wrath of Cortex or Sonic '06 level loading screens here, but it's like a second extra per battle compared to gen 4/5 all things considered. Even then if random encounters are so annoying to you just buy repels, it's not like you ever run out of money in a pokemon game.

However, it probably won't matter much in the end, specially if I never care about Pokémon-Amie (that Mewtwo given to you by Sycamore doesn't have that shitty animation, its delay is because of Pressure), so I'm cool.

First off, unless you're some kind of meticulous nut, you probably would even notice any of that time considering it is spread out between your entire adventure. Context is important, and bring up numbers like that just for the sake of being large doesn't really work. The amount of time that small animation take in comparison to the length of each battle you'd have would completely dwarf them and would likely be the time you actually remember. It's like complaining it takes 3 seconds to get up from your bed to go brush your teeth in the morning. These aren't things you actually think about when you do them because they take up so little time in the grand scheme of your daily business.

The entire first battle takes a total of 35 seconds from start to finish (though the guy wasn't pressing A as frantically as most people tend to do). Compare that to an average battle in the other games and make of that what you will.

I'm a aspiring, not from GF game designer. Any complaints about extra load time building up is valid, but so is the speculation of it necessary. Games and software in general, is often made to function first and be optimized/bugfixed later. There's probably going to be some speedups or minor changes overtime.
