Not him but I've never seen a chestnut in real life before, not sure where you live but don't assume that shit grows everywhere.

Before gen 6 was announced I didnt know chestnuts grew in a spiky green shell either.

Chespin's design is kind of generic and more similar to what we had in BW. People are still in the "Yes BW are good" phase so they like what is familiar and comforting.
Then after a while they realize that Chespin is sort of generic compared to the other two and there is a falling out.

I disagree, the style of the gen6 is not a whole lot different from gen 5. It's just because people think it looks like oshawott (which it doesn't), while the others don't resemble a pokemonfrom gen 5. I could see Fennekin and Froakie fitting just as well in gen 5 as Chespin and find them just as generic.

That said I actually do like all of the starters though.

The skin will most definitely change to the colour of the stripe on his head, most if not all water starters get darker upon evolution, and that stripe is a pretty good hint.

The bubbles however won't change colour because that makes no sense, so there is that.

From all the polls I've checked on various websites it tends to be
1. Fennekin
2. Chespin
3. Froakie

Though Froakie seems to be increasingly popular since they've showed it in the anime preview similar to how a lot of people started liking Oshawott more once it was shown in the anime.
