the old games can go behind the excuse that they were OLD!
back then it was hard to make up a good game generally considering what little they had at the time. And these were pretty amazing. The Remakes were made with the idea of staying faithful to their originals, keeping the story, music and game-plot the players adored so much.
i mean the fact that they were so good and original for their time that the general public demanded remakes of them is already a clear evidence of their greatness.
the newest generations however can barely make up new independent pokedexes without relying on older regions (aside from the 5th generation which was full of disappointing new recruits, (Vanilluxe, Emolga, Alomomola, Druddigon, Keldeo, Stunfisk)
(also the 4th has a total of 3 fire types)
the second part of the 5th generation bases of the same (slightly extended) region, same starters, same plot. while g/s/c was a sequel with a whole new generation, starters and a new independent adventure aside from the previous story.
the newer games are being compared to old games in terms of greatness. ( seriously hear yourselves on this one that in itself is ridiculous)
and this is considering the enormous advancements in consoles, space capacity & graphics since then.
if you ask me the fact that old, supposed obsolete, games are even comparable to the newest and improved versions goes to show that it got worse not better.
so bottom line.
so what do we have?
old games = excellent, original & revolutionary for their time and limited resources to a point where their remakes were demanded.
newest games = mediocre for their time and resources to a point where they come close to being compared with the older, unimproved, memory limited counterparts.
