So I heard people cried at the end of this game.

How old were they when they played it? Because I'm curious as to why it had such a big emotional impact on people. (I haven't played it yet, but I'm curious about it)

I personally like the idea of actually being the pokemon since it puts the actual characters in the action and danger. As for the other two games, I heard that the first one was pretty much inferior to this one in almost every way and that the 3DS was was VERY dividing, so I guessed that Explorers of Sky would be my safest bet as my entry into the spin-off series, would I be correct

I started with rescue team but I can agree that Sky is the greatest entry. Also, I liked Gates To Infinity and I think you should give it a go, but it's very short.

I've played all three.
Sky is absolutely fantastic, play through Sky first.

It doesn't make him look good at all.
In fact it makes me hate him even more, how useless and unreliable he is. He probably would have died if his friends didn't thoroughly investigate what he was doing, and then when they helped him, he didn't even bother thinking about what the other guild members wanted, not one bit.

The only character I like from Explorers is Dusknoir, and before Sky he was still an extremely shitty character.

In all honesty I can see where he's coming from, I replayed Sky again with a more critical take on things and the partner really just doesn't seem to care about the MC, and the only reason he's helping you is so that he can figure out his own problems like with the relic fragment.

Anyway, I personally like Rescue, Explorers and Gates, all of them have their pros and cons, but in overall, all of them are nice games.

Aside from the Gates partner returning the holehills favour incident by standing up to Kyurem alone while half your ribs were broken I really thought the whole 'this partner is a very good friend' thing properly worked during the times where he actually thought about the people in the human world who'd be missing you, even to be reluctant to wish you back in the pokemon world, realising that his desire to be with the player forever was actually quite selfish The post game event may have been short, but it had my favourite scene in the entire series

I think the main thing is if you like your partner or not though. Most people that didn't feel sad at all at the end seems to dislike the partner.

It's probably because that the partner's the only character that interacts that much with the player, the guild really not doing much and Dusknoir and Grovyle being too little too late, hence the quality of the story pretty much rides on the partner. Or at least that's the way I see it.

Gates doesn't even have all the pokemon in it. It only has a few pokemon from each generation. At least Sky has everything from the first 4 generations.

Also, whoever is saying the Sky partner didn't even care about the protag must have just mashed through the future. He was a total fucking beta who can't fight for himself or anyone who he cares about, yeah, but saying he was only in the friendship for himself is reaching a bit.

I don't want opinions right now, I've heard them all. What I do want to know is: how long is the actual game? Like up to credits, and maybe with postgame story if there is one of those like the whole Darkrai thing in Sky (even though that was complete and utter trash, story wise)

So? Your attacks don't even do anything to the Bittercold. With primal Dialga you know you'll win eventually if you just throw a bunch of sleep seeds and eventually pick up some damage.

I think the physical embodiment of negativity is more intimidating than Dialga with random orange instead of blue.

At least The Bittercold actually had build up. Primal Dialga showed up once and was never mentioned again until you find him, and Rayquaza was even worse.

The available rewards are not only great, you're given a choice of what you want at the end. It's one of the best rewards I can think of for a 99 floor dungeon. And of course the mechanics are still there, they barely bothered changing the gameplay around at all with Explorers. They were too lazy to even fix the graphics to something up to par with the DSes capabilities.

Why do all Explorers fans have to be such fucking faggots. Honestly, out of all of the MDs, I think Explorers is by far the most mediocre. Gates at least tried changing the system and how the game works; Explorers just recycled RT's entire system + graphics and added a few small things to it. The story was honestly bland, and could've been better if it weren't for the godawful characters.
Rescue Team set the bar, Explorers barely climbed over it, and Gates jumped far above.

Overall I'd say it's Gates > Rescue Team > Explorers > Explorers TD

But in all honesty the games are almost exactly the same aside from the story, and this is a whole console change for fuck's sake. I really don't think they tried very hard with Explorers.

Hunger is a retarded mechanic that only matters in very long dungeons, so they secluded the feature to exclusively very long dungeons

And the Team Explosion thingy takes a long time to charge up, so even when a monster house is easy to beat normally, it's only slightly easier now.

Yes, but Rescue Team was most likely designed for the GBA. Either way, for a DS game, the graphics and soundfont are pretty damn bad IMO.

Baby mode, that ending was weak compared to Blue/Red Rescue Team. The reason these games are so emotional is because (providing you actually read the text in-game like I do) you grow sort of an emotional bond to your character and your partner.

Wow, that opinion is so shit that it makes for a compelling argument to limit freedom of speech. The only emotion I felt at the ending of RT was irritation since the game made the player character want to go back to a world of perpetual danger for the sake of a cardboard cut-out excuse for a character. Explorers's ending wasn't fantastic, but damn!

OP, you just spoiled your own surprise birthday party.

Red Rescue Team was released in a time where I didn't really care much about pokemon and had no idea that a game like this was even developed. I picked it up a few weeks after release because I liked the concept of being the pokemon and exspected a story simular to what I was used from previous pokemon games.

It was like a beautiful rollercoaster of fun and drama ending in a wall of solid sadness.

It had the worst story, Shortest length, barely ANYTHING worth mentioning as extra dungeons and Post-game content.

And don't start on the village, building that has no reward and gets you nowhere with no post game.

Also its difficulty is laughable. Give us 99 floor dungeons again and we'll talk.
