Not exactly, but no message was shown about effectiveness for the Hydro Pump, so it's safe to assume that Fairy takes neutral damage from Water

This calc is assuming Sylveon has 95 base HP and freaking 255 base Special Defense.

So presumably Rain no longer boosts the damage of Water type attacks?

What do you think it does? Just weakens fire, gives Thunder and Hurricane perfect accuracy and triggers Swift Swim/Hydration/Rain Dish?

Maybe it could cure burns.

Politoed may not have had max SpA IVs and EVs, it did have max HP so it may have been a tanky option.
There is also the option that rain does not boost water attacks, given how overused it is in competitive play I really wouldn't rule out a nerf to it.

There aren't any items that boost defenses as far as I know, and introducing more would be a terrible idea given how many options there are already to be a stalling piece of shit.

95 HP/130SDef; still higher than the damage output.
Also, Politoed was on a Trick Room team, which suggests even though it doesn't confirm anything a bulky offensive spread (for starters, it makes no sense to use Life Orb with a bulky spread.)
My bet is that Politoed is running HP/SAtk Evs with a Quiet nature

What if multiscale? The second Hydro pump did more or less the same damage the first one did, but it wasn't a crit.
I think Multiscale is its hidden ability.

With 0 EVs, 0 IVs, and a -Sp.Atk nature, the minimum Politoed could do to Sylveon with a crit life orb rain Hydro Pump is 65.86%.

That's more than Sylveon took. There absolutely has to be another factor in play here reducing the damage.

In order of descending probability I'd put them

Boost to water attacks from rain lowered
Sylveon has defense boosting ability
Sylveon has defense boosting item
Gamefreak completely changed the damage formula

Yeah, rain or Multiscale look to be most likely here, giving a damage reducing item to us with the current viability of tanks and stall just isn't a good idea.

Froakie seems to be the fastest of the 3, the Fennekin and Chespin. Chespin attack is high. I think Fennekin is like a wall since its fire attacks didn't do much to Chespin.

Someone raised the possibility that its stat spread is actually 110/60/65/95/130/65. Is it possible that this spread could OHKO a Salamence if we assume Moonblast is 120 BP?

The thing with the 110 HP thing though is that we've seen what its HP is with 0 IVs and EVs: 155. If it had 110 HP then it would have been 170 instead.

But on the other hand, every Sylveon we've seen in the demos has had 106 HP at level 30 which is what a pokemon with 110 HP would have with 0 EVs and IVs.

So maybe they changed it from 95 to 110 in between the Smash episode from June and now.

Please for the love of God let that 95 be in Special Attack. That's all I need. I just want it be usable ingame, damn it ;_;

I did a bit of reading up and it turned out that the screenshot actually showed Salamence's and Haxorus' HP, not Sylveon's and Xerneas'. So Sylveon's HP was still up in the air up until the demo.

No in the Gamescom and Game Show demos, you get a Sylveon. They all have 106 HP at level 30. I'm thinking they finally ditched IVs.

We had seen Sylveon's HP before that, check pic related. Salamence has base 95 HP too so people thought its HP was Sylveon's and Haxorus's was Xerneas's.

The problem is that it still doesn't eliminate the chance that it's 110, since 106 also falls in line with base 110 HP with 0 IVs. So it's hard to say. At this point the only possibilities are 95/60/65/110/130/65 and 110/60/65/95/130/65. And without something to properly gauge its Special Attack, we can't be certain which is right.

Yeah, there's definitely something we're not seeing with the Politoed vs Sylveon battle. It could be anything from Sylveon holding a defense boosting item that's better than Eviolite, Drizzle not powering up Water attacks anymore, a change in EVs/IVs or even a change in the damage formua itself.
