That's something that always bothers me about western artists. They make shitty drawings and put watermarks and signatures all over the place. Just look at most of good japanese artists: none of them put any of that stuff on their art, and it almost always looks 10 times better than deviantArt shit.

As a result, their drawings are "stolen" everywhere, but well, the original artist is always somehow retrieved and then she/he becomes well-known, as opposed to western artists where no one is known except in their little circle of friends.

The problem with his art being "stolen" is that he posts them so fast, so when something comes out and there's no hi-res official art yet, people post his instead.

what makes me upset is when people make bead sprites of FANMADE sprites with no permission/credit, and sell them.

I'll give you a break and assume you meant "FANMADE art," but how's that any different than making bead sprites of official art/sprites and selling them? That's profiting off someone else's work, too.

Is there a way to know (or at least to speculate with some accuracy) which pokemon were made by each artist? I know all the ones from the two first gens were made by Sugimori, with the exception of Mew, and that gen V had some from James Tuner, but what about the rest? I'm specially curious about gen 3 pokemon.

Gen 3 was a gen of extremes IMO, some are way to good and some are way too bad.

Art theft is very prevalent on the internet, especially in the west. I've been the victim of it countless times to the point where people who post my stuff, usually on sites like reddit, get way more attention for it than I ever have. Without a watermark or source, an artist can miss out on a lot of credit.

I doubt it. They've never released any sort of comprehensive list, I assume because they were designed by house artists who were credited at the end of the game. Since the game is predominately marketed towards children, I doubt they really think anyone would care.

Probably not - each Pokemon starts off as a set of concept sketches/ideas, which are then refined through everyone else's input and then given a final once over to fit in with the rest of the cast. You probably wouldn't be able to tell who came up what initially unless they said so themselves.

Gen 1 was by Sugimori only
Gen 2 has like 40 designed by Sugimori (leftover from Gen 1) and I assumethey had a minor crew to dealw ith the rest.

Gen 3 onwards had a team on the job. If I'm not mistaken BW has 17 people working on pokemon
