Power creep. I play unrestricted tournaments with people at uni and the people who only have gen 1 cards (about half the people there) get completely obliterated.

All the numbers got bumped up and the rules were rearranged but the game is still the same. Heck one of the teir one decks is a Blastriose rain dance deck. Except now rain dance is called deluge.

I just played and beat that recently; it was pretty amusing but no matter the deck I built it always felt that skill took a backseat to luck in that game which was rather disappointing.

This. I can't spend a fortune on cards and even if I did I have no-one to play with. But I have fond memories of it being awesome when I was younger.

A 3DS version of the game would fix both those problems. Imagine if the GBC game could play online!

The RNG decides the coin flip before it actually happens. I guess to prevent save/load abuse, since you could restart the turn by resetting.

The sequence of coin flips is generated at the start of the duel and never changes, even if you reset. You can still cheat by using a card where the next flip is helpful, though.
