Ash is no longer the main character but the obnoxious immatuere rival. The new season follows Garyin the douchebag league, Dawn and Alexa, and the main characters, Brock and Cilan, who are competing in the cooking league. Team Rocket is still there, however they now take orders from Wobuffet, who has overthrown Giovanni. Paul is Gary's main rival. Cynthia is the former Champion, while Steven is the current Champion. The regional team is Team Plasbad, led by Miror B. The region is identical to Hoenn except without any land.
