You aren't going to meet the protags of the previous games, although you'll understand better what is up with N and Team Plasma if you do play BW1. Due warning, Team Plasma is not nearly as interesting in BW2 as they are in 1. It makes little difference in both. They're the villains, you fight them, we've been through this a zillion times before. My point is you're not really missing anything by not playing the first one.
