Not really, but there aren't really many options for water moves. Hydro Pump for raw power at a gamble. Surf for those too afraid to take a chance at something, or doubles.

Slightly. It would be better if it only had a 10% chance to burn instead of 30%. That way it's at least on par with moves like Flamethrower.

I mean, come on. That's just ridiculous. It has a higher chance to burn than most fire attacks.

Its a great option
But its a good tradeoff to sacrifice 10 BP for 30% burn chance thats why no one uses it

The same can be said about all types of moves. There are many options but only few are viable.

And yes, Scald is OP.
>ton of rain teams to boost its power

>super effective against fire types who can resist the burn
>good accuracy
>most water types are specially defensive so special attackers aren't as useful for taking them down

Of course, there are ways around it.
>Pokemon with Wonder Guard so burn is useless
>Pokemon with Water Absorb
>Special attackers
>Milotic fuck gorebyss with Marvel Scale
>Accidental burn can fuck you over if you're against a special attacker and can no longer use Toxic against them

Water types had enough moves. They didn't need to add one that burned opponents.

80+40(rain boost)+40(Stab) means scald has 160 base power? that with 30% chance to burn that does 12% damage at the end of each turn seems pretty good.

It's the water type version of Lava Plume and Spark and Sludge to an extent, all capable of having 30% chance of inflicting the status effect. There's no need to change anything about it.

Lava plume? go into a fire type to resist damage and negate burn

Spark? Go into a ground type negate it

Sludge? Steel/poison to negate it

Scald? That's more pokemon specific like gastrodon or jellicent, even if you happen to have those on your team then most likely your opponent can just toxic
