If it were based on the first stages alone I would choose Chespin. But I really need to see their evolutions to decide because I'm only going to have the first stage for like an hour into the game anyway.

A starter is the pokemon that you choose first and start your team with. Only Chespin, Fennekin or Froakie can actually be your starter. You cannot 'start' the game with Torchic as your first pokemon.

it's not really as noticeable as you think, the bigger screen is just nicer.
overall design and battery life is better
and if you don't have little kid hands, the xl is worth it for the extra hand space alone.

I didn't like to play on my original 3DS because my hands used to get cramped. Good thing XL fixed that problem. That bigger screen is really nice.

Longer battery life, better button quality and placement, bigger screen and therefore better 3D. I haven't noticed pixel stretching, but I went straight to the XL so I don't know.

I was getting Froakie until Clauncher happened.
Since I'm also thinking of Pangoro, Froakie had to go to let variation happen.

For now it's Chespin, who's place in the party isn't cemented, but I'll at least give him a good go.
