The only 'trend' that holds water (ha) now is that all Water-starters are semi-aquatic animals that can breathe oxygen (before you go well obviously, this is opposed to the plethora of Water-types like Starmie, Mantine, Relicanth, and the like that are based on fully aquatic animals); turtle, alligator, various amphibians, penguin, otter/sea lion, and now frog.
