I thought of an interesting theory. It always kinda bugged me why the horns were always on Ralts and Kirlia's head, but suddenly jumped down to the chest of Gardevoir and Gallade.
Then I started thinking, maybe in those first two stages Ralts and Kirlia could only sense the emotions of people, but when they evolved into the final stage they were able to both sense and feel the emotions of their trainers, and humans, on that deeper level.
