I don't battle competitively and my knowledge on Smogon is fairly shallow, but I want to know what makes them "so bad", and why "Karenfags" hate them so much?

if it beats their teams, it gets banned for being "broken" and "over centralizing"
yet if their team is built around a broken strategy, it's considered the gold standard

Come on guys, weather is popular, but that doesn't mean its the entire metagame. Smogon banned Excadrill and Drizzle + Swift Swim in order to weaken weather teams anyway. Tiers are decided by usage, don't blame Smogon for that.

Smogon sets are based around what players use, you nignog. They look at what people run the most, then take the top sets and post them up. Smogon sets and tiers are SUGGESTIONS, not requirements. Plenty of RU, UU, heck even NU mons can be used in OU, just look at showderp (yes, yes, >showderp).

Don't just throw around accusations.

Some of the bans are perfectly reasonable. If the Uber tier legendaries were allowed in OU, no one would ever use any other Pokemon. Ubers has a shallower Pokemon pool than OU even, and only Pokemon that are amazing in OU or have a very specific niche can even compete. Banning things like Shell Smash + Baton Pass in certain tiers was because virtually every team did it (even more than Scizor in OU, iirc). The evasion ban is something I'm personally a little shaky on, but otherwise you'd see a whole lot more Brightpowder/Sand Veil/Double Team Gliscor. Can you imagine what a nightmare that would be? Simulators have an option for unrestricted game play. Try it, and see if you miss the Sleep Clause.

The only Pokemon that Smogon bans that Gamefreak doesn't ban in official tourneys are Blaziken, Excadrill, and the Kami trio (and even then, they specify by forms).

And even then, GF/Nintendo bans Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Victini, Shaymin, which Smogon does not.
