It's a nice idea but I don't buy the theory.

Sugi/Ohmura did two pictures in one day, he used the red left in his palette for Sycamore's socks because no one cares what his socks look like, simple as.

Here's the thing: Sycamore is too sincere. I know, he could be lying, but GameFreak doesn't really write deception. Look at Ghetsis. Look at N. All their characters wear their heart on their sleeve.

So is there more to him? Definitely. He might be the Champion. Maybe he's a Battle Frontier Brain? BUT I don't think he's the leader of Team Flare, even though it seeeeems possible.

Sycamore also seems to be attached to the Holocaster thing. There was something there that made me realize he's got to be available post-game but I can't remember what now.

This isn't it: The official website says "he'll challenge you... What kind of opponent he will be ?". Also, His Encounter Theme is pretty mysterious and enigmatic. And finally, in the demo, he has a Crobat (signature mon' of a lot of teams leader) and a chandelure.

I always assumed all Pokémon artwork used a standard colour palette. Like, one or two dark reds. Admittedly it would still be a bit strange that they're specifically red socks, but it doesn't make them being the same exact shade any more significant.

Him having a Crobat does seem important, though. Crobat always seemed like a villain's Pokémon. But Brock has one too...

He has a Crobat because Crobat ties Mewtwo in Speed and they wanted you to realize Megatwo gets a Speed boost.

Also, they're totally going to abandon the "villains use Crobat." After BW they decided to actually make sure every (boss) team has as unique Pokemon as possible.

There's no source--beyond an interview of them saying the game design of BW was setting the M.O. for future titles--but it was an observation.

Maybe it's relevant but another thing they said was they focused more on designing trainers and then designing Pokemon based on those trainers and vice versa to get better cohesion, which is why stuff like Hydreigon and Cofagrigus is so perfect for Ghetsis.

How is it a villains pokemon ffs. Most "evil" teams usually don't give a shit about their Pokemon and Crobat only evolves through friendship.

Also, Lance had a bunch of dragonites that was too low levelled to have evolved naturally.

Cyrus also has a fucking Houndoom, and a Gyarados, and hey, so does Karen, and Lance! What I was even trying to get at to begin with is no Pokemon is an indication that it means a character is evil. That's just goddamn stupid which is what >>13552743 initially said.
