Just out of curiosity, why would a Parasect still listen to the trainer who caught it? If the consciousness that once belonged to the paras is either suppressed or non existent why would the creature as a whole listen considering the mushroom probably doesnt give a fuck.

The Pokedex makes it clear that Parasect is the Pokemon and that it's controlled by the parasite. If this is really a problem for you, then just remember how Marowak can have eggs in the Daycare center and not die, and that the resulting Cubone is still born with a skull on its head.

Paras is a generic crab/cicada nymph-inspired monster which is infected with a cordyceps; cordyceps is a fungus which eventually takes over the host body's mind as can be seen when it evolves into Parasect.
