I don't understand. If you have four rivals in X and Y, what Pokemon do they have?

And I feel like I need a hot-headed boy character. You know Shauna is going to be Bianca tier. Tierno doesn't really strike me as a good rival. Trevor seems like he's be Sycamore's aid or something. So is your counterpart also your proper rival? So it's like RSE?

I postulate you don't get to choose which.

Calem/Serena gets the Kalos starter that's strong against yours.
Shauna gets the Kalos starter that's weak against yours.
Trevor gets the Kanto starter that's strong against yours.
And Tierno gets the Kanto starter that's the same type as yours.

Come postgame, you get the remaining Kanto starter, who is weak against your Kalos starter (in the same way the elemental monkeys were determined in Gen V).

And Tierno is champ

Who says that they HAVE to have starters? Just because they're rivals that means they have to have one?

We know that Calem/Serena gets the stronger starter, and Shauna gets the weaker one.

Trevor and Tierno have a completely original party. There is absolutely nothing stopping this from happening other than muh patterns.

Shauna and Yvonne/Xavier will be your rivals battling wise. Trevor will be your rival Pokedex wise. And Tierno will be your rival companionship wise; whose Pokemon like them better.
