it even sucks on ambipom. Yeah it's kinda funny, and can net you a bit of extra free damage, but it's easy to counter and can be seen a mile away, and used as a nearly free switch

First off, it's a priority move, so it's already useful. It also flinches, giving it the ability to be used as both as utility, free damage, pressure and a great way to finish something off.

Secondly, you don't "counter" fake out. Stop using terms you don't understand. Secondly, it's obviousness can be used to your advantage if you don't suck. You must be one of those people that lead with Weather starters all the time just because it's your "lead"..

Fake out is an extremely important support move in VGC, allowing only one attack to be fired from the opponent's side, or keeping them from using protect. Its almost as useful as protect itself, or intimidate/icy wind/snarl in VGC

Infernape. Meinshao. Hitmontop. Hitmonlee. Weavile. The ocassional Scrafty.

Know your metagame shit. Even outside of it's tactical advantage in your average battle, it's an incredibly sought after move for VGC, that instantly gives a huge amount of usage to any pokemon that can get it. It's a huge part of why Hitmontop is OU in the VGC format.

Silk Scarf powers up Normal moves. Kanga mostly uses Fake Out priority and Double Edge for massive power. Combined with a Silk Scarf, it could make huge dents in teams. try it out in NU.

Mienshao gains from it for being an annoyer. It fakes out a pokemon, the U-turns out. It can gain health through leftovers and Regenertor easy this way. And if someone predicts fake out, you can always try to predict when with a more powerful hit. From what ive seen its pretty effective. Though I havent played any meta for a long time.

You could use LO but one of Kanga's hits in NU is its wonderful bulk and some people don't want recoil to stack from the repeated Fake Out usage and detract from Kanga's defensive capabilities.

Normal Gem Fake out is better for Hitmonlee by far. It's a free boost with its ability.

As for Infernape, it's less common, but it's essential for its anti-lead set to work.

You know, even a Fake Out coming from a level 1 Aipom is going to KO an Aggron sitting at 1 HP. Fake Out isn't used for damage, it's used because it basically gives you a free turn that still deals a tiny bit of damage to break sashes or kill something that survived because of a sash.
Obvifuckingously a STAB priority move is better than it to deal damage.

I see it on Meinshao all the time. Regenoator+Life Orb is pretty sexy to some people.

Also fuck you, Ambipom is great. Fake Out not only does free damage, it pseudo-scouts what your opponent's item is. STAB and Technician makes it 90 base power and in genV it's faster than Extremespeed. Low Sweep/Kick, with Beat Up's perfect coverage, hell, Fire Punch if you want. Not even mentioning it's almost unlimited utility.

If you don't want to "counter" it, then don't.

Instead of using Fake Out on Mienshao, use HP Ice. It fucks over all Gligars and puts the hurt on Golurk. Still gets walled by Cofag though

Whether or not you're using Fake Out or HP Ice completely changes the intent of the set.

If you're running a more sweeper oriented set, obviously you're not going to use Fake Out. Like.. holy shit, duh. But you also use Reckless instead of Regenerator.

If you're using Annoyer Meinshao, your team should probably be prepared to deal with Gligar and those guys. In fact, if you're using Meinshao to deal with them, then that's a problem.
Also, Annoyer Meinshao comes coupled with U-turn for that exact reason.

A pinch of chance keeps the game fresh. Lower accuracy moves at the cost of more power, putting a pokemon to sleep or paralyzing in the hopes it will turn out effective. Small bits of chance can make battles very interesting.

I understand why most people dont play with double team because the chance can become dramatically unfair, and most counters people post arent as reliable as you would think, especially since nearly every pokemon can learn double team.

Moody bibareal i dont really understand. I mean to an extent yes a person could use protect and get lucky enough to get the boosts they need. But they could also get useless boosts and end up wasting turns trying their luck.

I'ts always hard to say where the limit should be.

Then dont use fake out every single time you switch mienshao in. Obviously if you always use the same two moves youll be predicted and screwed over. Its up to you to decided when you think your opponent will switch to a good counter and to take the chance to use a stronger attack.

Granted, a great deal of that is that auto-Fake out mindset that a lot of people have. Fake-out is a move a lot like U-turn that really shines from it's ability to gain the upper hand when used with correct prediction. In your same example, if they had U-turned instead of Fake-out the first turn like you had expected, that'd end up worse for you.

Props for using Golurk though, m8. That glorious fucker doesn't get enough use.. especially considering it's Terrakion's only true counter.

You can always U-turn right away on their switch and choose a easy counter. This has gone, from saying Fake out is useless to just trying to say Meinshao is usless, which i am pretty sure it is still pretty damn good. Every pokemon has counters but that dosent mean they are immediately useless.

The purpose is for a free "use" for an item. You use the Normal Gem up by using Fake-out, which doubles your speed, then lets your fully-invested Attack Hitmonlee try and sweep unhindered, because your foe is flinched.
That doesn't work if, guess what, the foe doesn't flinch. Hitmonlee can't take a hit.

Your team should already be decently suited to take away the one or two pokemon that can potentially stop meinshao. Once they are out of the way meinshao has an easy time cleaning up the battle.

And yes I understand, it wont always work, but thats not gonna really be needing support issue. Whether you can get it work and out predict your opponent is entirely based on both players skill and strategy.
