Outside of Pokemon, it doesn't serve much of a purpose, but Pokemon is so popular that

A) they can release a new console for one (well, two) game(s)

Ever held a Wii U gamepad? Because it looks like that ergonomics wise. The 3D effect is useless shit anyway, so I don't see any reason to care about that being removed.

If we had consoles at the price you get them at USA, way more people would be able to afford them.

However, Pokemon games range between 50 and 60 dollars, and a 3DSXL is worth 260. Two hundred and sixty fucking dollars. Do you think we have this much money? And when 2DS arrives here maybe it will be worth 200 dollars, at least. 260 is what will cost 2DS + Pokemon.

Seriously, having a more economic way to play Pokemon is always welcome.

That's the thing. Video games are generally an expensive hobby. Nintendo COULD quite easily flog copies off cheap, people would remain loyal, etc. Especially because a lot of children play Nintendo games and so are going to have less money.

Yes, they'll lose money, but in the long-run, people playing their games rather than not playing their games is going to pay off. Hence the 2DS.

I don't see how people can object to something they're not forced to use. Probably mad about forking out hundreds of pounds/dollars on an XL.

Dude, Nintendo is not at a fault. Again, if it were at the price in the image, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I wouldn't be complaining about not having money. And sadly I don't earn enough to buy a 3DS, or hell, maybe a 2DS. Mind you, I still don't have a smartphone at this time and age and I want to expend money on things. It's really depressing to have money as a limitant to whatever you can do.

I'm totally and utterly split on whether to get a regular 3DS or one of these. XL I think is pretty much out, it'd be nice and it looks awesome, but it's just too much on my shitty budget. I'm pretty much using all the money I just earned to eat while I'm at uni. If I didn't have a birthday coming up it'd be out of the question.
Depends on the quality and price of used 3DS's.

Have you guys ever considered that you could buy a used XL from ebay ?
I bought a white one that was as good as new with manuals, box etc + an OoT 3DS + Super Mario 3D Land + a nother game + official charger

all thesein the price of 190 euros + 10 euros shpping cost = total: 200 euros.

And I should mention again that the 3DS was like it just got out of the box. Just search for bargains of used goods, ebay and amazon are full of them....

1, these things are specifically designed for babies. 2d for their eyes, no folding because kids break the hinges, guarantee the shape and way they are weighted is so it doesn't land on the screen if you drop it. These are for 7 year olds.

2, mono sound, so have fun with the shit music quality

Feels good man. About to get me a 3DS XL.
I'm glad this wasn't revealed until now, I actually would have considered this if I didn't have the money. This will be great for kids and people who can't afford an extra $40, but for anyone else it really is pointless.

For all of the drawbacks this is what I love about a capitalist society- I don't have to buy it.

It should, but the mic won't work since the DS uses some input for the mic I've never even seen on any other device. Actually, I don't think the 3DS even has an input for mics. (Some devices like laptops or phones use a combo jack, but my mic didn't work on the 3DS when I tried it.)
