Kanto was okay, Johto was bleak, had shit post game, and was originally meant to be part of the original game for a reason, Hoenn has the problems I already mentioned, Sinnoh was probably where the regions actually started to have less glaring weaknesses, but was still pretty bad over all, Unova was really linear, and I obviously can't comment on Kalos yet because I haven't played XY.
Every region has its faults, but those that belong to Hoenn not only got in the way of me enjoying the region, it got in the way of me enjoying the game. That said, Gardevoir, Milotic, and Salamence, three of my favorite Pokemon, came from Hoenn.
