So, why on earth aren't you more hyped for this?

"During the Pokémon Game Show, it was announced that a brand new anime special will run to coincide with Pokémon XY. It is not really at clear at the moment, but I doubt it will be enough to last an entire season. A few episodes, and only a few chosen situations from the games will be covered it seems.

Three episodes at most will be made and nothing special will happen. The hype was felt when /vp/ thought it was going to be a full series.

One can dream. New anime, in the same style as the BW2 trailer, with more mature content and characters, following the main plotline of the games and some of the adventures manga. Would be pretty sweet.

What's so bad about it? Never read it, but from what I get from Bulbapedia, some of the things from the manga is usable, i.e Giovanni discovering how to evolve Rhydon, the war-like tendencies, the 60 day challenge, etc.

Yeah, that'd be weird. But there are several elements in the manga that has potential even though it might be poorly written. I really liked the idea of corrupt gym leaders, the fact that Giovanni discovered Rhyperior, etc. There's a lot of things like that a new anime could explore.

Basing a new anime on the games makes it possible to rotate the characters in focus, give them some real development, and you could have paralel stories from the different regions, i.e RBY and RSE event happening at about the same time.

It would also be nice to actually see the plots of the games being animated faithfully. I WANT to see the raid on Saffron City. I WANT to see Hoenn being nearly flooded and the Groudon/Kyogre lasting for more than just 2 specials. I WANT Team Galactic/Plasma actually being a threat.

Hell, if they really want the money rolling in for them, they should animate some of the Pokemon manga out there (Pokespe, DP Adventures, Pokemon Theif 07, How I became a Pokemon Card, Reburst, etc) Maybe not as a full-fledged series, but at least an OVA to test the waters like they're doing with Origins. I'd love to see Pokemon actually having POTENTIAL again.

Er.. what? None of those manga sell all that well, and they sure as hell aren't as popular as the anime is.

But the anime doesn't even try incorporating some of the plots. No raids from Team Rocket, no floods, no bomb explosion at one of Sinnoh's lakes....The Pokemon League doesn't even resemble the games' league either. They have the time to make new areas in the region, but they don't even try getting the plot elements from the games in there. And they should be able to, since like you said, the plots ARE simple.

I know Pokespe is pretty popular there. Not as popular as the anime, yes, but it's gained enough of an audience to keep it ongoing. I'm just saying, a little adaptation wouldn't hurt. Special's following should be enough to get some good sales. It'll get them more money anyway.

its really funny how kids today are bitter about the fact that there is a whole generation of people that enjoyed pokemon WAY more than they can ever hope to and still went on to grow up and move on to more productive adult activities

Depends how much it costs to make and air. PokeSupe sells around 35,000 per volume. That's not very much, especially for something with a big brand name like Pokemon attached to it. Meanwhile the annual movies can make like 50 million dollars in Japan and the anime gets great ratings. Don't want to flood the market with a bunch of Pokemon shows and have people get burnt out or lose interest.

Instead we get Hunter J and Team Galaxy teaming up, blowing shit up, and then J's ship exploding and crashing into the lake. They have to add stuff because otherwise the show would only be like 26 episodes with how little content there is in the games, and that's not going to last until the next generation, so they add in side characters,rivials, and other things. They're faithful in they use the basic plot of Team Aqua/Magma/Galaxy reviving a Pokemon to TAKE OVER THE WORLD and then they get stopped, and sometimes the lesser plot elements like them stealing something from a museum or something, but they generally expand it more in the anime for time. Granted the first series didn't do much like the game, but that was way back in the day.

The league is obviously why. In the games you're the only Pokemon trainer who means a damn. You can beat the game in 24 hours and get 8 badges, and apparently you're the only one to do so because no one else ever comes to the league, except you. The anime actually handles it much more realistically. All people in a region who got 8 badges registers and then they have a huge tournament to see which one person will challenge the four top trainers and then champion that year. In the anime you can gets hundreds or thousands of people getting 8 badges so just walking in the front door and challenging everyone doesn't work like in the game since you're the only competent trainer aside from your rival.
