Some examples:
"an honour" is correct, while "a honour" is not, because it starts with an "oh" sound.
"an eunuch" is incorrect but "a eunuch" is correct, because it starts with a "y" sound.
However, in older texts, when "eunuch" was pronouned "oonick" (like Antony and Cleopatra, for example), "an" is used instead.
