A lot of the new game console systems are not using new technology so much as they are using readily available technology with specialised boot ROMs with rather advanced security features (well, at least Sony's ROMs have decent security). Now that Pokemon XY are coming out, I give the 3DS a year and a half before it's emulated, and maybe 2 years before we see a flashcart... although, I predict that the security of the eStore downloadable games will be broken before a flashcart will show up, so people will be able to sign their own software and run it off of the SD card.
I also enjoy being wrong, so bring it, Nintendo.
