You know you can choose between Spheal Family, Lapras, Sneasel, Swinub Family and Delibird as well, but you won't be seeing those till around the 8th Gym Leader

As a pure Ice type, Cryogonal is better, but 30 base defense?

Also, Ice Punch, Brick Break or Hi Jump Kick, Crunch and Dig(Since it can't learn Earthquake) is a good move set to Scrafty on campaign.

IF you decide to teach move tutor moves, you can farm Shards easily when you talk to a girl in Chargestone Cave who gives you the "Find Mysterious Ores" funfest mission.

You can do the mission by yourself as many times as you want.
