Personally, I love the Crystal Gengar sprite. Morty was intimidating with it.

The animated sprites were pretty good in Crystal. Better than Emerald anyway.

I think Platinum/HGSS is where the sprite art peaked

Gen 1 sprites are a mess, Gen 2 is actually decent, Gen 3 sprites look too plastified and some of them look really, really bad (looking at you Shiftry, or skinny arms Swampert), Platinum and HGSS sprites, they look clean and have interesting poses.

Gen 5 has the problem that the base sprite is just an idle position and the pixelation looks bad especially fro behind

i agree however that Gengar looked so much better in gen 1 and 2

gengar was one of the few decent ones but the color is fucked up. D/P easily had the best 4th gen sprites, HG/SS just look amateur tier

Yellow had good sprites and actually resemble the pokemon we know today.

Not even close. Until gen V backsprites were always terrible, because they try to show multiple views of the Pokemon at once and crop it, but if you want truly, truly shitty sprites look at Red and Green/Blue. Bad backsprites are one thing, but gen 1's sprites were laughably off-model.
