Okay so now ive finally outplayed BW2 and am sick of it for the time being. But with XY still a month away, i still crave some monster battling games to tide me over until that game comes out. What would you recommend? In the meantime, ive recently played/beat

If you haven't picked up Pokemon Conquest, try it out. Its a lot of fun. Still battling with your same favorites, but in a brand-new way.

Easily the best spin-off game since Colosseum and XD.

I'd suggest either Devil Survivor if you like tactical-rpgs (Devil Survivor - Overclock for 3DS is superior version than regular DS)
or Strange Journey (for DS) if you like dungeon-crawler-rpgs

I hated conquest. The only do one attack, and you cant move/attack/vice versa in a single turn. Pretty glad it didnt catch on...or it did, and theyre secretly working on a sequel as we speak...

You get one move and one attack per turn. You must have been doing it wrong.

And you sacrifice multiple attacks, but you can switch between 3 abilities.

I really liked the whole, "Find the perfect pokemon for each warrior" aspect. It was kinda like putting together puzzle pieces. And the HOURS upon HOURS of post-game. Easily the most post-game of anything in the Pokemon franchise.

Oh well, its not for everyone, I guess.

I tried attacking, THEN moving but it didnt let me move. Other srpg's let you do that but not this one. or maybe i am doing it wrong

I'm in the same position OP. I got that new Monster Hunter game and it's pretty fun. It's both an RPG and monsters so it works.

I have been playing Haypi Monsters on iOS for the past 3 months.

It's a casual cooldown based, freemium Chinese Pokemon ripoff. I can't say it's fun but I am hooked so I can't do anything about it.

No it's Crusty a crab monster. Yes a lot of their monsters look like Pokemon, take the dragon in the pic - it's a Charizard ripoff.

I loved the RoboPon Series when it was around.

Mostly because the second one realized the game premise was silly and it went with it. You get to time travel, meet magical creatures, talk to dogs, and stop several evil people from taking over cities or dicking things up.
And what I loved was this was just a means to an end and not at all part of your characters motivation. You simply just wanted "To Be The Very Best" robopon champion and happened to save the world doing so.

I hated that none of my friends even heard of this game when I was growing up.

This. Get spectrobes but avoid the bonus spectrobe cards you can get free. They ruin the game by giving you god-tier spectrobes early on

Kingdom Hearts 3D has a bunch of monster things to collect if you want a step further away from Pokemon than Spectrobes is. It's also got a function very similar to Amie.

If you don't mind old school games, I'd recommend Dragon Warrior Monsters for the GBC. Other than the "capture" mechanics, I actually prefer this game. It's mature, has a decent story for a GBC game's limitations, and the battle system was triple battles before it was cool.

If you're looking more for a modern game, I'm definitely gonna have to say Ni No Kuni. Again, I don't care for the capture mechanics, but the story is one of the better ones I've seen. One of my favorite combat systems, though, as I said, it can be a pain in the ass sometimes to capture familiars.
