Hello /vp/, I tried looking for a thread that would have what I'm looking for, but I didn't find one.

I'm new to the metagame, and I've only started to EV train a few of my Pokemons. I'm just training my Charizard with a macho brace, because it's just my favorite and I'll have it on my team regardless. But does anyone have any suggestions as to how to efficiently EV train, or what kinds of Pokemon I should have on my team?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're carrying a Charizard you'll want a pokemon with Rapid Spin on your team. Getting the EV training items from PWT will basically be a must. Getting Pokerus will help as well. If you've been doing Join Ave you can also get a handful of EV's a day there.

Is there any way to get rapid spin to work with a Starmie? And how would I go about getting Pokerus?

So if you want to use Charizard, you may want to stick around the RarelyUsed Tier and NeverUsed Tier as Charizard doens't fair well in tiers above those.

Things to effectively EV train is to obtain Pokerus. If you don't got it, just go ask for it on Wi-Fi General as finding Pokerus is 3x as rare as finding a shiny. as it doubles your EV gain, so if you fight a Pokemon with 2 Attack EV's, with Macho Brace+Pokerus, you'll be getting 8 Attack EVs.

Always start off with using Vitamins like Zinc, Carbos, etc. You can only use them up to 100 EVs. Each one gives you 10 EVs each so if you start off with 0 EVs, you can only use a max of 10.

It's easier to get EV's with the specific Power items than with the Macho Brace. Each Power item (Power Anklet, Power Brace, etc) adds EV's of the item's type.

For example: Your Charizard beats a a Zubat.

1 Speed EV (Zubat's effort value) x2 (Macho Brace Bonus) = 2 Speed EVs
1 Speed EV (Zubat's effort value) + 4 (Power Weight bonus) = 5 Speed EVs

Since no pokemon can give you more than 3 EVs in one stat, using the Power items is always better.

If your pokemon has Pokerus, the amount of EVs it receives is doubled after pokemon effort value and item bonus is calculated. In the above example, if your Charizard had Pokerus and was holding a Power Weight, killing one Zubat would earn you 10 Speed EVs).

And I guess the set I have on my Charizard is a mixed one. I have Flamethrower, Dragon Claw, Earthquake, and Air Slash. I don't know if that would work well with it.

Charizard is okay at mixxed sweeping, but I'd lean more towards special if an option.
