Why don't the writers develop me /vp/? Why am I one of the only well-know shonen-like protagonist that don't really accomplish much?

That's why I wonder why some people are still attached to Ash. He never develops, never stays consistent, and is a prime example of one of the most severe cases of being held back by plot that I have ever seen in an anime protagonist.

He needs to stay the same so they can keep the series going indefinitely just hitting the reset button on his character between every episode so they can sell more toys and video games to kids. If he changed too much then writing would be hard after 5000 episodes, better keep him the same to keep writing effort down. Just have him stumble blindly from one incident to the next, throw a battle in every episode, toss in Team Rocket entering and exiting in the same way in every episode, time marches forward, money piles in, nothing changes.

But it's beyond obvious the writers don't actually care about him anymore. They're just forced to keep him around, so they write him like shit 90% of the time.

I think he's the only anime character where any long time watcher knows he gonna end up failing and never get anywhere in his life.

Seriously, why anyone would watch Ash challenging gyms and going through all the motions while pretty much knowing he's eventually going to lose in the league is beyond me.

Ash had a near ideal team in Sinnoh and they just put a jackass with legendaries to stop him. I doubt the writers are above doing a similar act, or rehashing the other league losses.

Speaking of, you can't say friendship is the reason since he actually cares for them and the anime make a big deal of it. Can't be skill either, since he gets top ranks in the leagues.

Yeah, something about the last episode being called that catches my attention, too. I know he mentions it from time to time, especially at the beginning of each region, but there's something about Kalos Ash that seems like it could be possible.

But who are we kidding? They'll probably have him win the league then immediately lose to the first member of the Elite 4.

Even if they ever did have him grow up and own everybody, Pikachu will never be Raichu. It's just never going to happen. Ash already gave him two chances to evolve if he wanted to.

Some trainer shows up in Unova with a Raichu. The Raichu kicks Pikachu's shit in. It goes to the Pokemon center and Ash gives it the option to use the same Thunder Stone from Kanto to evolve if he wants to. Pikachu ain't having none of that shit and goes on to kick Raichu's shit in.

In other words, it's basically a rehash of the Ash vs Surge episode.
