So Mega-Evolutions:

Ampharos becomes Dragon, awesome! What a great way to retcon types of pokemon, maybe Charizard and Gyrados will have Dragon types instead of flying now... i see this... love the design, but still disappointed.....

The only reason Ampharos got a Dragon typing was because it is so shitty just look at it's stats (55 speed) it is literally a mediocre dragon type with it's mega compared to a non mega like salamence with better everything. It's move pool is also garbage. Besides look at the effects of Ampharor's mega all it gets is a dragon typing with the description:

>Changing type in the middle of battle can throw your opponent for a loop and garner you a significant advantage

I mean seriously that is one shitty description since everyone will know Ampharos is shit without the dragon typing besides "ooo you might confuse your opponent." Other than that, it gets the shitastic mold breaker which is fucking useless on something like Ampharos which cannot even use stuff like earthquake. Meanwhile while charizard remains the same with decent stats and it gets a flippin weather effect and a boost on it's already good special attack.

Gyarados is partially based on a legend about how carp that leapt over the Dragon Gate would become dragons. Several waterfalls and cataracts in China are believed to be the location of the Dragon Gate. This is referenced by Pokémon Snap, as the player needs to get a Magikarp into a waterfall to evolve it into Gyarados. There was that whole part it the legend about being a dick once it became a dragon and having its dragon powers taken away. Hence the whole part with Gyarados being this huge thrashing angry fuck.

If it was only dealing with the first part of the legend, it could evolve into something like Dragonite or something easily.

Is there a source for this? I keep seeing people say this yet I can't find it on Google at all and Bulbapedia doesn't mention it.

It can be as straight forward as a fish going almost dragon and then full fledged dragon. The origin still works.
