No, the reason Charmander sucks is because it gets SHIT for moves until it learns Flamethrower at level 34. THIRTY-FUCKING-FOUR. And that's in Gen 3. In first gen, you had to suffer all the way until level forty-six. So even if you only use Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard to incinerate grass-types, good luck, because all you have to do it with is ember.
It learns moves at a better rate in the newer gens, but going through Kanto with this orange bastard back in the day was almost painful.
