but just because you recieve the pokemon IN that city, it doesn't mean you get them at a specific point in the game.

think about this.

in pokemon emerald after you have completed the dex the professor will give you one of the johto starters.

in HGSS steven stone will offer you one of the hoenn starters after you defeat red

they are a reward. you will not receive the kanto starters mid game. how am i the only person on this board who has played a pokemon game before.

No, because GF can break the patterns anytime they want, they have done it before and will do it again
For example you don't get your starter from the professor

The patterns also disagree with you, GF has been paying more attention to gen 1 recently

The patterns say that they're going to give you a kanto starter early so people won't forget about it or completely miss it like in HGSS and Emerald

It just doesn't make sense to give other gen starters at the middle. Starters have always been a higher status than most pokemon, and if you get more than one, it'll be toward the end of the game. The only way I see getting starters toward the middle is if they plan to distribute starters from all previous gens, in which case it makes sense to hand them out throughout the game, rather than forcing kids to make 5 choices at once when they finish the game.

it's a marketting ploy. all they have to do is not tell you when you receive the kanto starters in game and then it doesn't matter the hype is still in effect.

if you recieved them at the start of the game they probably would have said so. (only time will tell but history loves to repeat itself)

yeah you're right they would have downplayed something which would make the game sell more copies in favor of explaining the full truth for the sake of openness. they wouldn't want to withhold any information or misconstrue something.

Posting my rather large leak here, When you finish the general games plot and have beat the champion ect, you can visit the professor and get a kanto starter. You can then challenge all the gyms again, however, each has level cap meaning that you must not exceed a certain level with all of your pokemon. Its like a New Game+ designed to make you catch more pokemon as you restart your gym challenge

Context clues would tell you that it is earlier in the game. Sycamore tells you something along the lines of "maybe you should have another pokemon."

What makes more sensse?

"You only have 2-3 pokemon, maybe you should have another."

or

"You only have 63 pokemon, maybe you should have another."
