Secondly, Charizard is getting such a ridiculous buff that making him Fire/Dragon would be overkill.
For Charizard, Megalution means 3 things all in one turn:
>Setting up sun regardless of opponent's switching>Boosting stats>AttackingCharizard is going to snag a really nice niche in the next generation because of its sheer assistance-less solo nuke power. With Sun, 'zard's increased sp. atk., and immediate attacking, you're going to drop nukes all day 'erry day with a well-timed Fire Blast or two.
By keeping Charizard Fire/Flying, Rocks ensure that the new-and-improved Megazard is a high-risk, high-reward strategy.
Also it would be pretty dumb to change the type balance between the Kanto Starters.
