At least BW had Team Plasma attack the Pokemon League, so your two main goals in the game intersected for once. Every other recent game feels like it's being pulled in two directions between the League and the unnecessary storyline.

You STILL have someone talk to you about the story every time you walk into a new town, you STILL have to beat that story before you can finish the League, etc.
